When her mother died when she was seven her Aunt Maude Bell and Hobart Ingram adopted and raised her. She was the youngest of 5 children. She met and married James Hughes, where she became a military wife with pride, traveling and living in many states, forging friendship with other military wives that she would remain friends with her entire life. She worked at many places, but her three favorites were with Ellis Realty—in Copperas Cove Texas where she met her traveling buddies the Larado Ladies. Raintight in Houston Texas, and most recently for the Federal Government as s probation clerk in Fort Worth Texas. She loved playing dominoes and cards, vacationing with her family and friends and watching any basketball game that her son in law Dennis was coaching, and was was OBU basketballs biggest fan.
She was a beloved grandmother to twin granddaughters Macy and Myca whom she loved fiercely. Two daughters Vicki Nutt and Jennifer Peterson two son in laws Dennis and Eddie respectively. She was preceded in death by her husband Lt. Col James R. Hughes and her daughter Jennifer Hughes Peterson. ♥️
Nelda loved everyone unconditionally she was always by and on your side she never complained about anything, even while fighting Parkinson’s. She never spoke poorly of anyone, which made her the best example for her family of what a good parent and grandparent should be.
We were all so very lucky to have her as a mom, mother in law, and friend. She was the strongest person her daughter Vicki ever met. She lost her mom, her husband and her daughter, but through it all with her faith in God she always knew she would be with them all again.
In conclusion her family asked to send you off with a few of her favorite words and phrases… See you all again sweetheart, doll, sugar, sweetie pie, and thanks for the day.
