Ora Owen Wheeler, 86, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away, Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Owen was born December 8, 1932 in Coweta, Oklahoma, to James Roscoe Wheeler and Ora Mae “Moreland” Wheeler.
On October 2nd, 1950, he married his sweetheart, Woody Lea Denton. Owen was employed in a steel foundary for over 40 years, and retired as a superintendent at Joy Manufacturing.
Besides working a full job, he enjoyed spending time on the ranch raising cattle and horses. He was an avid motorcycle rider and together, he and his wife traveled the country. He also spent a lot of time watching politics, playing checkers with his grandchildren, working in his garden, and sharing his financial wisdom. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grand children as often as possible.
He is preceded in death by his father James Roscoe Wheeler, his mother Ora Mae Wheeler; siblings James Wheeler, J.D. Wheeler, Anna May Kirkland, and Raymond Wheeler.
Owen is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Woody Wheeler of Guthrie, Ok. Devoted children J.R. Wheeler, (Melanie), of Altus, Ok., Cheryl Burkett, (Arnie) of Guthrie, Ok., Carol Burnside (Steve) of Peyton, Co.; grandchildren Casey Burkett (Amber) of Guthrie, Ok, Derek Burnside of Peyton, Co., Dallas Wheeler (Deanna) of Moore, Ok., Heather Thrower (Michael) of Edmond, Ok., Chad Burnside (Kristen) of Calhan, Co., Justin Wheeler (Sarah) of Blair, Ok., Ashley Wheeler of Tulsa, Ok., Cody Owen Wheeler (fiancé Kelsey) of Edmond, Ok.; great-grandchildren Haylee Burkett, Preston Burnside, Katelyn Meyer, Jayden ChaiChan, Logan Burkett, Brock Burnside, Brody Burnside, Raegan Burnside, Justice Wheeler, Bron Burnside, Jagger Wheeler, Hannah Thrower.
He is also survived by his siblings Neoma Marshall of Oregon, Maxine Merrell of Tulsa, Ok., Carl Wheeler (Iva) of Pryor, Ok., Wilma Beller (Johnie) of Coweta, Ok., Verna Young (Fred) of Tulsa, Ok., Carolyn Sue Hembree (Sonny) of Haskell, Ok., Lola Jackson (Sonny) of Coweta, Ok., Harlan Wheeler (Cindy) of Coweta, Ok., and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Owen Wheeler to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
