I hope the family sees this one.

I would not have an Air Force career without Lt Col Patrick Mitchell. He gave me help as I went through a painful divorce, his "let's close the door and talk" times kept me going. He made sure I didn't get kicked out of the Air Force for no reason after a misunderstanding with medical, and he pretty much kept me going through some of the darker times of my life. He was a true friend, honorable and good. We had some great talks and man do I miss him. I wouldn't be here without him.

Lt Col Mitchell will be deeply missed…  His mentorship and friendship was a blessing and I’m happy to have had the gift of knowing him. Cheers to his memories of 15,000 steps before noon, his emphasis on family, making FSS look cool, tier 3 memes, and the genuine care he had for people. He is the best mustang I’ve known.

This is Pippin, Maj (at the time) Mitchell was  he's favorite. He's patiently waiting outside his office door for him to return in hopes of a nice run and some home made beef jerky.

He was the best Commander I've ever known or had. And the greatest friend anyone could ask for.  He morned with us when we lost our first baby and celebrated  with us when we had our first born. I'm saddened by his early departure but I know we'll meet again.

I've known him since the 90s back at Carswell when he was enlisted with the 301st SFS. He was a great guy and friend! My heartfelt prayers go out to his family. RIP my friend.

My heart hurts and I have no words. You will be missed Patrick. RIP my friend.

Our daughters were born in the same year so Pat and I have shared stores for years are about their lives, successes and challenges.  I still remember the day my daughter was born...Pat came to the hospital, marched through the door, immediately used the hand sanitizer and held out his hands to hold the baby.  Having recently been through the same thing with Evi he knew the drill.  His face was priceless and his support then and through the years was heart warming.  Thank you for sharing your husband and dad with us.

We all had a good time at one of our Command Section Alumni Lunch get together.  Pat was regaling us with stories from our time (often considered as hard time served...haha) in the front office working on various General's staff.

Your husband and father was a great co-worker and friend.  He will be sorely missed by myself all who knew him.

​Please accept my deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time. I had the immense honor of serving with Capt Mitchell at the 507 SFS, and I can say without hesitation that he was—and remains—the best leader I have ever had the privilege of serving with.

Dear Robin, Evi, and Piper,

We are heartbroken to hear of Patrick’s passing. There are no words that can truly ease the pain of such a profound loss, but please know that you are all held closely in our thoughts and hearts. Patrick’s life was so rich, beautiful, meaningful, and touched so many, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

I worked with Patrick at Dairy Queen when we were in high school. He was such a fun and hard-working guy.  One night we made homemade onion rings by dipping onions into melted ice cream and then battering them and frying them. They were not on the menu, but they were so delicious . He also always worked in the kitchen at Dairy Queen. He wouldn’t let anyone else take over it that area, and  he was extremely efficient. I hope this memory brings his family a smile as the mourn his  passing. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

We brought Pat into the Security Forces world as our Operations Officer.  I asked him why he would want to leave his former career field after being an NCO and CGO.  Without hesitation, he talked about the opportunity to serve and lead what he considered some of the best enlisted members of the Air Force he had seen.  He would miss his former career field and his squadron, but he wanted to step up to the challenges and rewards of the SF Career field.  His background as an accomplished NCO brought his passion for what mattered, our airmen. 

He zealously took the time to learn the mission and kicked it as our Ops O.  I and others never saw him in a bad mood, or speak a word poorly of any of his troops, even when they did the bonehead stuff.  When presented the chance to command, he was “hell yes”, and it was an honor to pass the flag to him, and he took the squadron to higher status than the man he relieved.

We loved watching him be a husband and rejoiced in seeing him raise his beautiful kids.  He had a quiet, but obvious pride in the things he loved; his family, his troops and his service to them and this nation.  He is missed, respected and loved by those who were lucky to spend time with him.

Well done Pat, you're missed and you live on in our stories, memories and how we treat others.

Robin, I was so sad to learn about your loss. I had not seen you in a while but I remember what a sweet family you were.  You have had so much to bear these past few years and my thought and prayers are with you. Aunt Wanda
