Robert “Bob” Greiner of Shawnee, OK, age 93, passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of our Lord on May 14th, 2024. He was born in El Reno, OK on July 16th, 1930, and was the first child of L.V. and Sarah Greiner.
Bob grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Classen High School. He then attended Oklahoma A&M College, where he majored in Forestry and completed the ROTC program. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and was always proud to be an Aggie!
After graduation, Bob was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Army. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he married the love of his life, Mitsuko Satoma. They spent 68 beautiful and loving years together as husband and wife.
Bob’s military career took his family all over the world. He proudly served two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a highly decorated officer, having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He then transitioned to civil service and was employed by the US Postal Service for 20 more years.
Bob didn’t know a stranger and was a friend to everyone he met— he loved people! He was kind, loving, loyal, considerate, and generous, and was a great role model to his family and friends. In his youth he was a Boy Scout, and as an adult served as a Scoutmaster for his sons’ troop. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Brotherhood at Siloam Lodge 276 in Oklahoma City. He loved gardening, nature and the outdoors, animals, birdwatching, playing cards and dominos, and sports (especially OSU!) — but his greatest joy in life was his family. Above all else, he loved God, and lived a true Christian life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents L.V. and Sarah Greiner, his wife Mitsuko, his son Jeffrey Louis, and his granddaughter Theresa Lynn. He is survived by his sister Cynthia Mae Fox, and his children: son Michael Greiner and wife Diane, daughter Debra Greiner-Powell, and daughter Kathleen Greiner-Birch and husband Michael. He is also survived by grandchildren: Jennifer Wittler and husband Michael, LTC Kristine Cothren and husband Cody, Ashley Becker and wife Jennifer, Zachary Becker and husband Matt, Jordan Powell, Mikayla Greiner, Garrett Greiner, Michael Powell and wife Monica, Capt. Jason Becker and wife Candace, Michael Birch Jr., Ryan Birch, and Sebastian Birch, as well as numerous great-grandchildren. All held a special place in his heart.
The family would like to thank all his caregivers for the loving care they provided “Mr. Bob” in his last days. A special thanks to Sherry Payne, who served as his tireless and loyal caregiver for the past few years. We are blessed that he had so many people who cared about him. Bob exemplified the Boy Scout oath: “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.” We will carry his love and legacy in our hearts forever.
A visitation for Robert will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 North Kelley, Oklahoma City, OK 73131.
A funeral service will occur Friday, May 24, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Funeral Home Historic Cemetery Chapel, 13400 North Kelley, Oklahoma City, OK 73131.
