Ronald V. Collier, 87, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on October 13, 2025. Born in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Howard and Marcelene Collier. He and his younger siblings, Wesley, Dennis and Linda worked at their mom's café and their dad's movie theatre.
A proud Geary Bison fullback in high school, he scored just one touchdown but was a great teammate. At Southwestern University, he met the love of his life Freda May Haack. They both graduated with teaching degrees and shared a common bond of working in family run movie theaters and a love for film and story telling.
Teaching took the couple first to Las Cruses, NM and then back to Oklahoma. Ron taught history at Putnam City, while attending law school at OCU at night. After graduation, he worked with the OKC Municipal Counselor's office.
Because Ron and Freda both enjoyed growing up in a small town, they wanted the same for their two children, Kacy and Jack. They decided to move to Hennessey where Ron (and ultimately Freda too) joined Vincent Mesis law practice. After Jack graduated from high school, they moved back to Edmond where they would spend their remaining years.
Ron's legacy will live on in the traditions he helped create: the annual hearts tournament, October costume parties, 4 of July Olympics, the Thanksgiving Classic, burger cookouts with croquet. New Year's resolutions, Tuesday night Sonic nights,
Friday nights with the grandkids, a night at the Oscars party and June trips to Jackson Hole.
He was old-fashioned and proud of it. He loved his checkbook, his yellow note pads, his paper calendars and his filing cabinets.
He loved his cars made in America and preferably red. He loved a good road trip, with frequent stops to visit a historic site or eat at a classic roadside diner.
His barrel chest, square jaw and large smile warmed the hearts of many as: a history teacher, a small-town lawyer, a rancher, a screenwriter, a dance partner, a bridge partner, an avid reader, a life-long learner, an OU Sooner football fan, a doting husband, a proud father, an adoring grandfather and a great friend.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Freda Haack and his brother Dennis. He is survived by daughter Kacy Collier (Terry McVay), son Jack Collier (Susannah Lambird Collier), grandchildren Jake Martin, Kendal Martin, Ford Collier, Price Collier, Coffey Collier, and Ryan McVay; brother Wesley Collier (Marilyn); and sister Linda Collier Chambers (Neal Chambers), along with numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.
The Memorial Service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13400 N. Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73131, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Healthy Living OKC, the City Rescue Mission, or any cancer society.
