With heavy hearts, we share the passing of an extraordinary woman, Rowena Davidson.
Born in Cogar, Oklahoma—a place known for little more than sand burrs and a broken-down gas station from Rain Man—Rowena’s journey was nothing short of remarkable. She grew up in a home with dirt floors, yet through determination and an indomitable spirit, she rose from dirt to marble.
A trailblazer in healthcare, Rowena shattered glass ceilings at Midwest City Regional Hospital and represented the field worldwide as an ambassador for President Eisenhower’s People to People program. She also served as the President of the Oklahoma Dietetics Association, advocating for advancements in nutrition and healthcare. Her work took her across the globe, from China to Australia and even to Helsinki, Finland, where she survived a hotel bombing. She also stood atop the world—literally—by climbing numerous mountains over 15,000 feet.
Oklahomans may remember Rowena from The McCain Brothers Show, a staple of local television in the 1980s and ’90s. The McCain Brothers, known for their morning show on KOCO, brought entertainment and local charm to viewers across the state. Rowena’s presence and contributions made her a beloved part of Oklahoma’s media landscape.
But above all, Rowena was a devoted wife to Sam, a loving mother to Marc and Chuck, and the cherished Granny of Myles, Ashley, Daryl, and Casey. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Issac and Elijah Stephenson, Angie and Liam Davidson, and Gibson Davidson.
Rowena Davidson lived a life of adventure, service, and love. May she rest in peace, knowing she left the world better than she found it.
A funeral service for Rowena will be held Friday, February 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Historic Cemetery Chapel, 13400 N Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73131.
