Shapour Etemadi, 91, of OKC passed from this life on May 7, 2021 with his loving family at his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Shapour was born on Sept. 27, 1929 in Rasht, Iran to Jafar and Sedegheh Etemadi. His father passed away when he was five and Shapour was sent to live with various family members until he was 13. At a young age, he made the decision to join the Iranian military. He later married Almtaj Etemadzadehrashiti and raised five wonderful children during their 45 years of marriage.
Following the Iranian Revolution, Mr. Etemadi was imprisoned by the new Iranian regime. During his 4.5 years of incarceration many of his friend and former employees were murdered. He was facing the same fate but the remaining good guards hid him from the new people in power. The new government powers kept him in prison for 4.5 years trying to get money out of him. The government decided to allow him to make a short trip home to see his family. Shapour took this opportunity to flee to the United States with his family. Once he reached the U.S. he retired, which gave him more time for his hobbies: collecting stamps, playing poker and backgammon.
Shapour Etemadi was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ali, and his sister Soror. He is survived by his four children: Shahla, Shahin, Shirin, and Shahnaz; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren (and another one on the way). He is also survived by his brother Jamshid, as well as numerous other beloved family members and friends.
