Shirley Ann Nagel, 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Thursday, November 20, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, surrounded by family. Always putting loved ones first, Shirley was the rock for her family, the supportive figure around whom everybody gravitated, and she never hesitated to do what it took to ensure her loved ones never went without, and she always knew the wisest advice to give at just the right time. She loved Jesus, hosting family for the holidays, music, soap operas, a good laugh, and a good cry.
Born January 13, 1944, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, Shirley graduated from Northwest Classen High School. Her passing was preceded by grandparents, Frank and Golden James; parents Bonnie and Davis Pickens; and children, Ronald Nagel Jr. and Donald Nagel. She is survived by her husband Ronnie Nagel; siblings, Joann Dale and husband Tommy Dale and Terry Weaver and wife Nancy Weaver; children, David Pennington and wife Jynx Pennington and Stephanie Nagel and wife Cindy Willis; grandchildren: David Pennington Jr., Adrienne Christner and husband Jeremy Christner, Desiree Womack and husband Shane Womack, Alexander Thompson, Aiden Nagel-Willis, Marissa Hutchinson, and D.J. Hellyer; great-grandchildren: Tyler Pennington, Ryan Pennington, Zoey Pennington, and Lilith Christner; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Ronnie and Shirley met at TG&Y, where Shirley was working, in 1962. Always the flirt, Ronnie always asked her to go out for a Coke; Shirley turned him down several times, stating she had a baby at home. Finally she relented: “If I go for a Coke will you leave me alone?” Sparks flew, and shortly afterward they married on December 26, 1962, in Denton, TX. The love that they have for one another is undeniable and will continue to remain as strong as ever, for all time.
Viewing will be Monday from 9am to 8pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel with entombment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.
