

She was number seven of nine children: Eliza Mae Hervey-Flood of Battlecreek, MI Deleslie “Son” Hervey of San Francisco, CA. Donald Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK Denzil Johnson of San Francisco, CA. Ida McWilliams of Denver, CO. Odessa Louise Wagoner of Wichita, KS, Leon “Duke” Wagoner of Los Angeles, CA all but one sibling, Scarlet Rue Gordon of San Francisco, CA. preceded her in death.
She attended Wynnewood High School from 1956 (the first year of integration in Garvin County) graduating in 1959 where she was an exemplary student and participated on the girl’s basketball team.
She furthered her education by attending Southern Nazarene University School of Adult Studies Program graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in 1992 while continuing to work full-time.
Her life’s ministry was as a social worker for the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Oklahoma County where she devoted 35 years of service to her community, retiring in April of 1999.
She served her country stateside in the United States Army as a reservist for four years from 1975 to 1979 (respectively).
She also dedicated her time to serving in Quayle United Methodist Church as the Sunday School Superintendent for a time and was a member for a number of years, and later attending at People’s Church~Oklahoma City campus participating in the women’s bible study group for fellowship and support as her health permitted.
Prior to and after retirement she worked a number of part-time jobs to fill her time including; working as a substitute teacher for Oklahoma City Public Schools.
Ms. Thelma Wagoner’s life will be remembered with love and joy by her daughter Thalia Wagoner of Oklahoma CIty, OK, sister Scarlet and a host of nieces, nephews, former colleagues, neighbors and friends.
