She was born on May 25, 1930, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the daughter of Alfred E. Boyers, Sr. and Ressie M. Boyers.
She grew up on a working family farm surrounded by the land she loved — tending to cows, horses, pigs, and chickens, and picking peaches and apples from the orchards that shaped her earliest years.
Charlotte was a woman of quiet strength and steady grace. For many years she served her community as a waitress at the Village Inn Restaurant, where she was known for her warmth and her genuine care for the people around her. A faithful member of Orlando Baptist Church, her faith was a constant source of comfort and purpose throughout her long and full life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Burl Edmond Cox Sr.; her son, Wendell L. Cox; her parents, Alfred E. Boyers, Sr. and Ressie M. Boyers; and her siblings, Nancy Perry, Charles Boyers, Alfred Boyers Jr., Cornelia Good, Louise Whitmore, Ralph Boyers, and James Boyer.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Ouida Raaz, Thresa Abbott, and Edmond Cox Jr.; her grandchildren, Tyler Mitchell Cox and Bryce Edmond Cox; and her younger brother, Stephen Boyers.
The family welcomes flowers, which may be sent to Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlotte's memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation at komen.org, in honor of her strength as a breast cancer survivor.
