Greg was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife Kitty; daughter Rachel; stepson Steven (Nikki); sister Becky (David); brothers Terry (Emma) and Jim; and stepfather Bob. His father, Daniel David Rock, and mother, Wilma Jo Greer, preceded him in death.
Greg attended Oviedo High School and graduated from Dixie Village Christian Academy in South Florida. After high school, Greg enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a submarine sonar technician and boatswains mate on the SSBN Woodrow Wilson. Greg was honorably discharged in December of 1983, and he continued his education at the University of Central Florida pursuing his degree in Electrical Engineering. Greg worked for Mercury Marine in St. Cloud, Florida, for over 30 years as a design and test engineer.
As a family man, Greg was always supportive of his wife and kids. Greg and Kitty were married in June of 1995, and he became an instant father to Steven. Years later, Rachel came along. Baseball games, crew meets, chorus recitals, and volleyball games – Greg was the type of dad that always tried to be there, encouraging and cheering you on. He loved attending Tampa Bay Rays baseball games and watching his beloved Miami Dolphins football team.
One key character trait of Greg’s is he always encouraged you to do more, do better, do your best – because he drove himself in the same way. He was an avid tennis player and golfer but once he discovered his love for running and cycling, there was no turning back. He drove himself to reach further heights – completing the Ironman Florida competition in 2015, attending the Xterra World Championships in Maui in 2017, competing in the Leadville 100-mile cycle race in 2018, and finishing the Unbound Gravel 50 Race in 2022. Whatever he was planning, he trained with discipline and perseverance.
Greg also believed in helping others and established his own personal training business, Rocket Fitness, in 2015. He obtained his professional certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine in Personal Coaching and Corrective Exercise Specialties. Greg found joy in helping other athletes obtain their fitness goals, whether it be starting a new fitness journey or returning to a desired fitness level following an injury.
Finally, Greg wholly believed in the saving grace of accepting Our Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. Throughout his victories and struggles, Greg’s faith never wavered. We can find peace and comfort in the belief that he is with Jesus for eternity.
