It is with profound sadness the family of Hilda E. Torres, announce her peaceful passing at home on June 4, 2025, after losing the battle to Alzheimer's Dementia. She was born May 10, 1938 in Manati, Puerto Rico, the proud daughter of Benito Garcia and Justina Laureano. She was a beloved wife to Jose R. Torres. A loving mother to her children Jose Torres Jr. who predeceased her on November 02, 2011, Edward Torres, Sally Quinones, and Nelly Torres. The best grandmother to Jose Torres, Jessica Torres, Arianna Peralta, Jahaira Torres and Olivia Lugo and great grandmother to Jovanny Aponte, Mason Angelico, Eliel Torres and Yadiel Torres. She was a sister and a proud aunt to many nieces and nephews who loved her deeply.
Hilda grew up in Puerto Rico, raised her family in Connecticut, and retired to Florida. She worked for many years as a soldering specialist at Perkin-Elmer and later at Norden Systems in Norwalk, CT. Hilda was always there when we needed her most, ready to offer support, wisdom, understanding and above all, love in abundance for anyone who knew her. As much as she enjoyed being a mother, it was when she became a grandmother, that she truly shined the most. She had a deep passion for life, the most infectious laughter, and a compassionate heart. She loved to work in her garden, bake cakes for everyone and crochet blankets, but most of all she just enjoyed helping others.
Our mother struggled with traditional funerals and the sadness of it all. For this reason, the family is requesting in lieu of the traditional black or dark attire, we encourage pastel or bright colors of which pink was her favorite.
Immediately following the service, there will be a potluck at the family residence. Please contact Nelly for details.
Contributions will graciously be accepted and please reach out to Nelly.
