Luis M. Martínez Ruiz, born on August 19, 1926, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, passed away on May 24, 2026, having spent his later years living in Florida. He was a man of quiet strength, steady humor, and unwavering kindness. Even tempered and thoughtful, he approached life with calmness and clarity, often adding a lighthearted comment that eased the moment and reminded everyone to breathe. He was someone his family could always count on, ready to help in any way he could.
He built a long and respected career as an independent insurance broker, serving his clients with honesty and dedication. Outside of work, he was the family photographer — the one behind the camera at birthdays, holidays, and every gathering in between. Many of the photos the family treasures today exist because he paused to capture them.
In 1949, he married the love of his life, Maria J. Díaz, and together they shared 76 years of marriage. A loving and devoted husband, he built a life with Maria marked by friendship, laughter, and unwavering companionship. He was also a constant presence in the lives of his daughters and grandchildren, sharing in their milestones and everyday moments.
He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Ivette Martínez Baquero, who passed away in 2019. He is survived by his wife, Maria; his daughter, Griselle Martínez; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Eva, his last surviving sibling, as well as extended family who loved him deeply. He was cherished not only by his own family but also by his wife’s family, who embraced him as one of their own.
His legacy is one of love, steadiness, and the memories he preserved for all of us.
Que descanse en paz.
