Once in a lifetime we meet someone who leaves an indelible imprint in your heart. I was fortunate to have met one. Marta, you entered my life in a casual way and remained there. I will never forget the countless times you visited or I would run into you at the supermarket. You always greeted me with that beautiful smile, a cheery hello and hug. Your visits when you would come over to meet with the ladies and dance from the moment you got here and the party ended are beautiful and unforgettable memories. I will always remember the delicious empanadas you would make and bring with you.
You were truly a gift from God and He allowed your loved ones and friends to enjoy you until He needed another angel so He took you by the hand and led you home. You are only gone from sight but not away. Some bright morning your loved ones and friends will be reunited with you to never part again. I will always love you and miss you. This is just Adios and not Goodbye.

I met Marta a few years ago. When exactly, I’m not sure because when we met she was an instant friend, so it felt like I’ve known her forever ❤️ The energy and love she brought, always filled the room. I’ll miss your voice with your New York accent! Lady, my New Years Eve parties will never be the same. I’ll be sure to blow a whistle in your honor this year. I love you & will miss you. Fly high my friend. Thank you Curet/Schiffner family for sharing such a beautiful soul with us. RIP 🌹

Marta’s daughter Tiffany was one of my best friends through high school and beyond. I remember the day I met Marta. I was 15. It was one of the first times I traveled into Queens from the Bronx to meet my then boyfriend. When I arrived at the train station, I felt sick to my stomach. I must’ve gotten some sort of stomach bug. My boyfriend took me over to Tiffany‘s house where I met her mother for the first time. She was so welcoming and comforting to me, a 15-year-old girl she had never met, even taking care of me when I was not feeling well. That is just who she was.

I truly feel sadness in my heart at the passing of Marta. She was one of the most light filled, positive people I have ever known. Still to this day you ask my daughter Ariana what her favorite food is and she always says “Tiffany‘s mom’s rice and beans.” Ariana was probably only around 3-years-old when she ate that meal, but she will never forget it!

Please accept this poem, written by my father John Carney, as a token of our condolence:

They are all dancing in heaven, someone special is coming from earth

Her name is Marta Curet, they have been preparing for her since her birth

They were all taught to give her love and understanding; all she will know is joy

Her pain and suffering are over; they no longer can employ

God bless Marta Curet for she was her best

And now she is going to heaven for joy and eternal rest

Rest In Peace Marta. 🙏
