Owen Constantine Cross, of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully into the Lord’s presence on 7 June 2022 at the age of 90 years old. He had battled medical issues in recent years and eventually succumbed. He was a deeply religious man, and because of his faith in Jesus Christ, he now resides in the light of the Risen Lamb. His favorite hymn was “I Come To The Garden Alone”, and as he transitioned to his heavenly body, we are certain that he is walking with his Savior in the garden.
Owen was born in Jamaica and migrated to New York City in 1966 and became a US citizen in 1973. One highlight of his career was working as a draftsman at the Rockefeller Center Architectural Office in Manhattan, NY. Owen was quite a handyman and was known by friends and family as a skilled carpenter. He was also known as the “meka man” because of his apt ability to design and make anything out of wood. To his family and friends, he was a mild-mannered man of few words. “Pops”, as he was referred to by most of his children and grandchildren, was always prompt to meals in his later years, and it was alleged that you could set a clock by when Pops had his meals, 8 am, 1 pm, and 5 pm.
Owen’s wife of over 50 years, Audrey Rosaline, preceded him in death in 2015. He is survived by his three children Michael, Jacqueline, and Richard; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; his siblings Sissy (94), Peggy (83) and Victor (80).
Owen will be honored by his family and friends in a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, 18 June starting at 12 noon at the Baldwin Fairchild at Chapel Hill followed by a graveside ceremony at the Chapel Hill cemetery.
