I have many wonderful memories of Raul from our youth. We will miss Raul. I remember how important it was to his parents and to my then Fiancee’s parents that these two young men , Raul and Juan , go together to medical school knowing they were going to Spain . In 1968 Spain seemed very far away and communications were not what they are today. Raul was an only son and so was Juan. It was a difficult decision to make right after high school but both Raul and Juan were determined to become doctors and attend the University of Santiago de Compostela . Their friendship grew during those years living as medical students abroad. Their parents knew their sacrifice would help them have the career they wanted. It was in Spain that Raul met his beautiful wife Angeles who became my dear friend. Eventually when I graduated from College I married Juan and went to live in Santiago, Spain and we attended Raul and Angeles lovely wedding in a church in Old Santiago, it was beautiful. Our paths and friendship continued to cross as we had our children and our families. Life seems very short now , we see how quickly the years have passed and his loss is a great sadness to my husband who shared so much with him and to all of us who love him and Angeles. He became a great cardiologist and took care of my grandmother with kindness and also took care of my father and mother in law for many years. He and Angeles have always shown love and kindness to everyone. They raised a beautiful family. Life dies not end but it continues in the arms of almighty God . Juan and I hope to see our good friend again. May perpetual light shine upon him and may he rest in peace. 🙏
