My Dad was not only my hero, but a hero to many. He was the example we all strive to follow. My Dad was humble and selfless to a fault. He had the strength of Superman and the patience of Job. There was nothing he couldn’t do, and he was never too busy for any of us. He took the time to explain how things worked and show us the correct and safe way to do things. 

A few years ago, Dad helped me change the coils, plugs, and plug wires on my Fusion. It was the most aggravating and frustrating undertaking, and I managed to lose a 10mm deep socket that was never recovered. After everything was put back together, we found out that the computer board would have to be sent off for repair. Sadly, that also meant that the coils would need to be replaced again before reinstalling the computer board. I was over it, but Dad took it in stride. He loaned me his car to drive, and mine hung out in his garage while we waited for the computer to come back. When it did, we picked up right where we left off. That was just another day for him, but he saved me over $3k and gave me some priceless memories. 

There is a lot of truth in the countless coffee cups, birthday cards, etc., he received throughout the years proclaiming that he was in fact the “World’s Greatest Dad.”

Pop was a one of a kind man. So special, so undeniably good and loving. A rock for everyone that needed a hand, hug, laugh, or a cry. He was so selfless and would quite literally give the shirt off his back (and more). He was humble and nearly blushed when we made a fuss about his birthday every year. But in turn, he made us feel wooled, loved, and supported.

He was constantly there for us. He cared so much and worried—even to the point of coming out to the door and waving us off in traditional Pop style. He was always saying how proud he was of all of us and always supported us in our endeavors. 

His comforting hugs and forehead kisses, calling me “sis,” the wise words, the smell of his pipe, the stories and quips, the calls on my birthday/new years, the love of all things Ford and racing, the full love that just poured into everyone and everything…the pain is so gut-wrenching. 

The world is mourning a wonderful and remarkable human that was gone suddenly. A hole is in my heart where our beloved Poppy was. But, he is with the Lord now and no longer in pain. 

As I always wrote in my cards: I love you bunches and miss you so very much, Pop.

Pop was, as my aunt so succinctly put it, a problem solver. He taught me how to fix things and was always there on the other end of the phone to troubleshoot whatever new project I had gotten myself in to. The smell of tobacco, CAT yellow, and the sound of car engines will always remind me of him. I was fortunate enough to have many memories with him in my childhood in Maryland, West Virginia, and Florida. He was a hard and honest worker and had a silly side to him that loved to poke fun. Though he was never one to complain, I’m comforted that he is no longer in pain. It’s hard to remember him without being sad, but I need to remind myself to be grateful for the time I had with him. It’s never enough time so cherish the ones you have while they’re with you.

I had the honor of meeting him just once this past Thanksgiving, even though I felt like I already knew him from all of Ashton's stories about him and the rest of her family. He was incredibly welcoming, always with a warm smile and kind words. Despite being a recent addition to Ashton's life, he made me feel like part of the family, and for that, I am deeply grateful. In that short time he made a lasting impression, his kindness and generosity will always be remembered.  My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember our dearly departed, Bob. Our most heartfelt condolences. We will never forget his kindness. May God give him eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain.

Bob was always a joy to be around. He would laugh at the silliest things which would get us started  and then it was a tear flowing laughter that would go on way too long. He was always there to help when you needed it and never expected anything in return. Bob was always a joy to be around and will be missed. It’s consoling to know that he didn’t suffer and has rejoined family that has gone on before. Our love and prayers to Linda and his family. Just know that we’ll see him again and a joyous reunion it will be

My life has consisted of "Bob and Fred" as long as I can remember.  Bob was Mr. Fix it.  If we were working on anything, Bob could and would fix it.  He always encouraged me to try and do it myself, but I always thought I needed his help.  Brothers in life and brothers in death and brothers we always will be.  There's comfort in knowing He's home with our God, and comfort knowing his face I'll soon see.  I'll miss you Bob.

When I think of my great uncle Bob I think of heavy equipment and muscle cars. I also think of someone who was highly blessed and favored. I know he will be very missed and will be leaving a big hole in his family. Bob’s passing has stirred so many fond memories, like the time he took some of us on a hair raising ride in a 428 Cobra (man could he shift those gears!). Or the time he loaned me and my bride (his niece) his ‘63 Falcon to take on our honeymoon. 

Bob had that calm cool demeanor. He reminded me of Steve Macqueen.  He loved fast cars. I could listen for hours to him and his brother Fred talking about their escapades and their cars. 

For Linda, the girls and Bobby and the entire family, we love you very much and our hearts are with you.

When I stop to think about my Uncle Bob… my mind goes back to a time, long, long, ago… and tears come to my eyes. 🥲 

Bob and I were on the porch of Poppy Hershberger’s house, up Elkhurst Road, on the river. I had a Cat! 🐈‍⬛ If you knew Bob, you know that, that didn’t go well.. I was very young… and I remember it like yesterday. He was stern.. but, still kind to me. 

But, after that, and the time that he washed my mouth out with soap, because I said,”Lair, Lair, pants on fire!” 100 times, too many🙈 
It was just love for Bob. ❤️ 

I only have fond memories of Bob Hershberger. I loved him so much. I loved his precious giggle that he had… no one else, that I ever knew had that heart warming laugh. Frank and I got to visit with him and Linda this past summer, he was still, after all of these years, his same kind and loving self. And I am so thankful for that visit. 

Anytime I thought about or said  Bob’s name… over the years, I also said, Linda. Even in my prayers, it was always have mercy on Bob and Linda, keep them in your Graces, oh Lord. And that I believe he did for Bob, and will for Linda. 
Thank you Lord, that he did not suffer, for the years that you gave him,  and for the special love that  Lynn, his family, friends, and loved ones have shared with him. 

Linda, Bobby, Cheryle, Diane, Karen, your families, and all that loved him, are and will be in our thoughts and prayers. Frank and I love you.  And we loved Bob so much. 

Frank shared a memory working with Bob. He worked as Bob’s helper for about 6 months. They worked for Hanes paving company. He has talked about this many times over the years. He said, “I enjoyed being with Bob, anytime.”
Our last visit, they talked a lot about the news. They usually talked about cars, equipment, and everyday life. They actually had a lot in common. 

Frank and I cried together, the morning we heard that Bob had passed away. We loved him, and we will always miss him.

The memories that I hold dear are too numerous to write down.  My heart is heavy, but my spirit is strong,  knowing Bob is now resting with his loved ones and has seen the face of God.  Rest easy my dear Uncle.  It's not goodbye, it's,  "I will see you later"!

     To, Linda, Cheryle, Diane, Karen and Bobby and families, I pray that God wraps you in his tender loving care and provides you all with his undeniable comfort.

My memories of Uncle Bob always include an onery grin and him smoking that pipe. I loved visiting him and Aunt Linda, especially when I was a kid. They were always excited for company and so welcoming.  I’ll definitely miss him. I love you, Aunt Linda!❤️
