Ruth Miriam Ortiz Montesino, Age 68, died in her home surrounded by her family on November 15th, 2020. She was raised in Corozal, Puerto Rico by her parents Francisca and José along with her siblings Carmen, Iris, and Israel.

Ruth was a devoted mother of three and a beloved grandmother of eight. She was dedicated to her family in so many ways making sure to support and give all the love she had for her family and friends. Ruth had a special bond with her sisters whom she loved dearly as well as a loving and dedicated aunt to her nieces and nephews.

Our mother dedicated her life to teaching and making sure every child she taught was given the best education she could give. She was a teacher at heart and is the perfect example of what teachers should be; always supporting her students even outside of the classroom. Our mom was giving and always took care of others without expecting anything in return.

She will be greatly missed and will be remembered in her family and friends’ hearts for all the love she has given. Ruth was an active donor to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

I met Ruth at Carl G. Lauro in 2015. I remember her struggling with making the decision to retire, because she feared missing the classroom. Ultimately, her desire to be closer to her family made the decision a little easier. I will be grateful to Ruth for her love of family, her love of teaching, and her faith. May she Rest In Peace and may her loved ones find solace in knowing she left a positive impact in the lives of many.
