

Alex Martin Ashcraft, 37, passed away July 5, 2016. Visitation will be at 12:30 pm with memorial services following at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 9th at McGilley & Hoge Chapel in downtown Overland Park, KS. Interment will be 10:00 am Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Old New Garden Church Cemetery in Excelsior Springs on O Hwy at a later date. Family and friends are welcome afterwards at 200 Waller, Excelsior Springs for a celebration of his life. Alex was born August 18, 1978 in Smithville, Mo and spent all but two years of his life living and working in Johnson County, KS. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1998 and attended Johnson County Community College through the Project Clear Program. He was a lifetime athlete in Special Olympics, loved music of all kinds, and an avid fan of the KC Royals, KC Chiefs, K-State Football, and Jayhawk Basketball. His great passions were working jig saw puzzles, watching movies, playing video games, and eating out with his “big, big family”.
Alex was blessed by a wide range of family; friends and professional supports his entire life. He is survived by his parents, Kenn and Janet Ashcraft of Shawnee, KS; his grandpa, Ronald Lawson; his uncle, Mike Lawson; cousins, Brad & Jessica Lawson and Zach Lawson all of Excelsior Springs. He is also survived by his uncle Mike & Aunt Judy Ashcraft of Platte City, MO and cousin, Sara Ashcraft of Seattle, WA. He leaves behind many other aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family. Alex also leaves behind some very special close friends and staff which include Lea Golden, Tam Osgood, Judy Warren, Kate Martinez and Dan McGurn and his dog “son” Jake.
Alex has always known Jesus and would tell us “when I die I will be with Jesus and my grandma. I will be happy, feel good, and have a new body that works good”. Well son, you are right! You have landed in your safe place with Jesus and grandma. You are happy and you have your new body. We love you and will always love you to the moon and back and the moon and back and beyond!
