Alice Frances Campbell

Alice Campbell, born December 30, 1939, was accompanied by angels to the gates of heaven on August 18, 2026. She said just hours before her transition that “angels were in her room.” She had a difficult childhood that taught her independence, resilience, and reliance on her Lord.

An excellent student, she worked her way through Phillips University to earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Later, she earned a master’s degree from Emporia State University. She was an avid student of the Bible and wrote out many verses on 3 x 5 cards. Her home was filled with Bible verses tacked up here and there for encouragement.

She was a devoted follower of Christ and maintained many prayer journals. Alice was active in leadership at First Christian Church, where she held many leadership positions, including Deacon and Elder. Her faith journey was lived out at Feed His Lambs, where she was a regular volunteer. Her greatest joy, however, was her Camino family where she learned to walk depending on the Holy Spirit. Two years before she left for heaven, she learned that her breast cancer had returned and was metastasized to her bones. One Sunday while sitting at church, she had an experience of the Holy Spirit that left her peaceful and joyful. She was told that she could handle anything that came along; that event inspired her to share that joy and peace with everyone she encountered. Her life verse was, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and He helps me.”

Her first teaching job was at Attica, Kansas, where she taught for 8 years before getting hired at Unified School District #204. Alice taught first grade for 2 years at Edwardsville Elementary the transferred to McDaniel Elementary for 27 years. She retired after 37 years of teaching first graders, sometimes having the child of a former student in her class. Alice was proud that she wrote the entire first grade curriculum in the summers of the last 3 years of her teaching career. She was also proud of obtaining $4000 from a grant and a private donation for computers and printers for her school.

Alice was active in many community organizations, including, Bonner Professional Women, where she was recognized as Community Woman of the Year. She was a regular card player at the Bonner Springs Senior Center and went on many day trips with that group. Alice was one of the earliest members of the BEAS (Bonner Springs Edwardsville Singles), and did trips, dinner theater and monthly potlucks.

In addition, she was recognized as Bonner Springs Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator of the Year, Teacher of the Year in 1976, and Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honor society for women educators.

Her memorial service will be Saturday, September 12, at 11 am with a visitation at 10 at First Christian Church, 148 N Nettleton, Bonner Springs, KS. We invite everyone for a light lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the service, where Alice’s albums, pictures, and other mementos will be on display for people to take with them to remember her by.

A Graveside Service will be on Thursday, September 17 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 9501 159th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66221
