Cletus (Clete) Raymond Sheehan, 86, passed away at his home with his family at his side on Oct. 5, 2011. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Pius X Church in Mission, KS, on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 AM with visitation starting at 9 AM. Clete was born in Grant County, Wisconsin, Feb. 3, 1925 to Oswald and Elizabeth (Cahill) Sheehan. He joined the Army in 1949. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, as a member of the 807th Engineer Battalion that built roads on the Aleutian chain of islands. He was married to Eugenia Riedl while stationed in Fairbanks before deploying to Korea. There he served with the 5th Regimental Combat Team in 1951. Clete worked as a salesman in the paint business, first in Dubuque, then Des Moines, and finally in the Kansas City area. He retired from Davis Paint in 1992. He was a graduate of Rockhurst University. In 1978 his wife Genie had a massive stroke and Clete became an advocate for stroke patients and caregivers. Clete focused his efforts on assisting hospitals to start Stroke Support Groups with the support of The American Heart Association . He spent over 20 years as an organizer and volunteer in this endeavor. Clete was also a City Councilman in Ward II of Mission, KS, for six years. As an avid baseball fan, one of his favorite projects was organizing Mission's annual "Night at the Royals" event. He later enjoyed working at the Sylvester Powell Community Center until he was 83. Clete also enjoyed his time with fellow Knights of Columbus members at Bishop Miege Council #843. He was a Fourth Degree Knight at Bishop John Ward Assembly.
Clete was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, his wife, Genie, his brothers James and Cliff (his twin), his sister Mary (Sheehan) Hutchcroft, and daughters Catherine Ann, and Mary Jo. He is survived by his brother Tom Sheehan of E. Dubuque, Il, his sister (Rosemary) Sr. Miriam of the School Sisters of St. Francis, his son Paul and wife Joyce, and their children; Christy Sheehan and her daughter Emmaleah; Amy Sheehan; Stephen Sheehan and his wife Christina and their children Paige, Alexandria, and Jackson.
