Spokane, Wa. Spring of 1983, Dave came pulling up our driveway in an old white chevy station wagon, with rusted out floor boards, club chairs for front seats and love seat sofa for back seat. He had a big grin, large biceps, a Fu manchu mustache, and a mop of shaggy blonde hair. To me, a young teen at the time, he was from another world. And he was. I believe they call that world Kansas. This was a world I only knew through my dad and his family members. All of whom I had met up to that time were great people. 
 That day Dave became part of my family, and due to his very close relationship with my dad, he was with us for holidays, family get togethers, barbecues and weekly after Sunday mass for breakfast. I saw him often,  and he and I had a great relationship. I'll miss Dave very much. But my dad will have a piece of himself buried with his brother in Kansas, with whom he loved and cared for.

I’ll never forget how Dave loved to bounce about on our high school’s trampoline.   Dave was a tremendous athlete and he literally could touch the rafters in the school’s gym while bouncing on that trampoline.  Students gathered around to help Dave keep his position as he bounced higher and higher.  It was amazing!

I’ll also never forget what occurred right after the last football game of our senior year.  Dave and I jumped into my car and we headed to Pomona, Kansas.  When we got there we went to a local bar and played foosball against some of the locals.  They didn’t like us because we were winning all the games.   The guys “politely” asked us to leave.  We left and started driving around the lake area.  Dave was looking up at the night sky and told me to stop.  I did and he got out of the car and was looking up at the sky.  He suddenly jumped back in and yelled out, “Let’s get out of here!”  I floored it.  Dave was upset and kept looking up at the sky saying things like, “Holy Cow!  I don’t believe it!, etc.”   I asked him what he was seeing.  He said if he told me I would never believe him.  We were going pretty fast and the road we were on was about to end.  I stopped the car and made him tell me what he was seeing.  He looked at me, as serious as can be, and said an object in the sky was following us.  He believed it was something from out of this world by the manner in which it was moving.  We got out of the car and started searching the heavens but all I saw was stars.  Dave just kept looking up at the sky and pointing at something.  After a while he started to laugh.   We jumped back into the car and opened another beer.   We traveled home the next morning. 

I lost contact with Dave after high school as we went our separate ways but I will never forget him.  Dave was the one with the beautiful soul.  God Bless Dave Lorhan.
