Edward "Ed" James Smith

Edward “Ed” James Smith passed away in his home June 10, 2025 following a battle with cancer. He was 58 years old. A celebration of life visitation for Ed will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204.

Ed became a resident of Overland Park, Ks after moving with his parents from Cleveland, Ohio at the age of two. He was a graduate of Shawnee Mission West HS and went on to graduate from Washburn University with a degree in criminal justice.

Ed spent 25 years as an employee of Hallmark. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there, and he loved the Hallmark team with whom he worked. He was never without a funny story about this group of friends and their antics.

A perfect day for Ed would be a long motorcycle ride on one of his favored bikes-a ride that pushed the legal limits of speed, followed by a plate of Jack Stack BBQ while watching and analyzing sports with one of his brothers. Ed was a true sports enthusiast, particularly devoted to Ohio State. However, be it a ball game or motor event, Ed had an opinion about them all.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Barb and Carl. He is survived by his “big brothers” Dr. David Smith of AZ; Chuck Smith (Lisa) of Overland Park; his nieces and nephews whom he lovingly referred to as “them kids”.

Ed was a well-loved brother. He will be missed by all.
