

Ed Ingenthron, age 100, died Thursday, Aug. 30, at his apartment home in Overland Park. He was born Dec. 2, 1911, in Topeka, Ks., and raised on farms in Grantville and St. Marys, Ks. He moved to Kansas City around 1930 and lived in Overland Park since 1945.He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Anita, whom he met and married in St. Marys; also by his oldest son, Edwin D. Ingenthron, by an infant grandchild, and by three sisters – Eleanor Youngberg, Dorothy Germonprez, and Bernadine Haug.He is survived by three children—Bonita Hanson of Prairie Village, Ks., Gerard (Tauba) Ingenthron of Naples, Fl., and Roger (Carole) Ingenthron of Earlysville, Va.; by a brother, Victor Ingenthron of Topeka, and a sister, Virginia Martell of St. Marys; by 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, plus dozens of nieces and nephews.
Ed was a gregarious gentleman who loved keeping up with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as scores of friends.He and Anita traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe after he retired in 1974. They spent many winters in Las Vegas, where their son Edwin lived at the time.Ed had a sparkling sense of humor and loved card games, playing casino poker regularly into his 101st year.He was a devout member of Queen of the Holy Rosary church since 1945. He served at various times for St. Vincent de Paul Society and Catholic Charities. Ed joined the John Deere Co. in Kansas City in 1937 and worked there for increasingly responsible positions for 37 years.He sold his Overland Park home when he was 99 years old and moved to Park Meadows retirement community, where he became a good friend to many.Visitation at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sep. 4, at Queen of the Holy Rosary church, 71st street at Metcalf, followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his name to Queen of the Holy Rosary church, Overland Park, Ks. or to Catholic Charities.
