Ernie was my brother John's father-in-law and they were such good friends. Ernie was so full of life and loved his family. He loved my brother like his own son, which meant so much to me and my mother.

Ernie was such a character and so much fun to be with. RIP dear Ernie, love you!

We knew Ernie was going to be a great neighbor even before we actually met him. It was Thanksgiving morning when we got a knock on our front door. When I opened it up two Lenexa police officers where standing there. The one a the door asked if everything was ok. A neighbor had called saying our garage door had been going up and down and up and down.
This was just a few minutes after our then 5 year son said something was wrong with the garage door. As it turned out he had been playing with the opener that had been in the car we had sold the night before.
I asked if the officer could tell me who had called in but he said he could not. I asked if he could pass on to who ever had called it in to thank them.
I closed the door and then watched as the officers went across the street to Ernie and Mary's home and explained what had happened. Ernie had been outside watching. The three of them had a long laugh.
It was the first example of what great neighbors Ernie and Mary were.

We will remember Ernie and his family in our prayers and give thanks that we got to know him.

Ernie's passing brings a flood of memories to us . We've had the pleasure of knowing Ernie and his family for over forty years.
From responding to JTFD Fire and Rescue calls with Ernie, to disco dancing lessons with Mary Lee and Sharon, our memories of time spent with them will always be special to us. He was a great friend and will continue to live on in our hearts.
We will keep Mary Lee, Michael and Lynn and their families in our prayers during this difficult time.

I loved my Uncle Ernie so very much. He was always there for me giving advice and a shoulder to lean on. I admired and looked up to him and believe my career in sales was a result of his influence on me at a very early age. My Uncle always had a smile and positive attitude. He loved his family and especially showed love and support for his sister, Marcella, my mother. I'll always remember the fun times together and his words of encouragement. I miss him already and hold him close in my heart.

Mary Lee you know how much I thought of Ernie while working with him
at St. Andrews and OP golf courses - he will be missed by all the friends he made there.

My prayers are with you and your family.
