

Franklin Holmes Brinkley, 88, Overland Park, KS, passed away on December 5, 2011. He was born September 14, 1923, in Victoria, VA. Frank lived in the Kansas City and Overland Park area since 1947 with the exception of living in Chicago for 5 years. He was a 1951 graduate of Rockhurst University. In 1980, Frank retired from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development where he was a controller. For the next 10 years, he worked for the Missouri Housing and Development Commission, retiring in October 1990.
Frank faithfully served our country for over 44 years in both the US Army and Navy, enlisting on December 14, 1941. He was a veteran of WWII. He had memberships in American Legion Post #370, Fleet Reserve Association Branch #161, US Navy Memorial, and Naval Enlisted Reserve Association. He had the honor of participation in the Navy Last Rites of former President Harry S. Truman in December 1972.
Mr. Brinkley was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Cole Brinkley, in November 1992, and by a daughter, Karen Colleen. He is survived by: a son: James Holmes Brinkley; and daughters: Cynthia Anne Brinkley, Deborah Genevieve Hiatt, Denise Hope Talbot, Michele Lee Jolly, and Stephanie S. Parkison; 15 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Friday, December 9, 2011, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, December 10, at Calvary Chapel of Johnson County, 500 S. Lee Avenue, Olathe, KS. Inurnment with full military honors will be held at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, December 13, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Navy Memorial Foundation of Washington, DC, the Navy Fleet Reserve Association Branch #161 of Kansas City, KS, or to the Kansas City Hospice House.
