

Fred Martin Dworkis, USAF Capt., (Ret.), 70, of Lenexa, Kan., died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Fred was born on March 24, 1940, in New York City. He attended North High School in Phoenix, Ariz., where he graduated in 1958. Fred then went on to attend Arizona State University, earning his B.S. in Business in 1962. In 1963, Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force through Officer Training School. He counted his time in the USAF as the pinnacle of a long and varied career of service. He worked as a Services Officer in Southeast Asia in 1967 and was later stationed at Weisbaden Air Force Base in Germany from 1968-72. Fred earned several National Service Awards for the exemplary performance of his duties and retired with the rank of Captain. Not content to let his passion for service expire with his departure from the USAF, he embarked on post-graduate work at both the University of Arkansas and Wichita State University, where he earned his Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1977. Fred used this training to serve as an investigator with the United States Department of Labor from 1978-99. He was a member of the Arizona State University Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1988-96. He was also actively involved in American Freemasonry, finishing his Masonic career as a member of Overland Park Lodge #436 and Ararat Shrine. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Ruth, Lenexa; and his sons, Brett, Olathe, Kan., Scott, San Francisco, Calif., and Adam, Lenexa. A visitation will be held for Fred from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 31, with formal service immediately following, at McGilley and Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204. Fred's burial will take place later in the week at Leavenworth National Cemetery; any who wish to attend that service should contact the family or McGilley and Hoge for details.
