

Galen was born November 12th, 1938 in Hanover, Pennsylvania but grew up in Sebring, Florida. The eldest son of Truman Lee Edward Horton and Martha (Leona Swank) Horton. Galen was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Everett James Horton.
Upon graduating from high school, Galen moved to Kansas where he received a degree in chemistry from McPherson College. To fulfil his military obligation, he joined the Air Force as a navigator. Then, using his chemistry degree he moved to Kansas City to work for Colgate Palmolive and made soap. As technology advanced his interest in computers pushed him to learn all he could about information technology. He then acquired a position with Blue Cross of Kansas City; where he worked in IT until retirement. He soon left retirement to work at the Sprint Campus in Kansas City.
His hobbies included carpentry and he was an active member of the Kansas City Midnighters’ Dance Club and Overland Park Historical Society. He was a kind and private man who was always willing to help others when and how he could. He was a loyal and proud community blood bank donor, having donated over 100 gallons.
Survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Palmateer (of the house) after 49 years of marriage; sons, Michael (of Lenexa, KS) and Jeffrey (of Seattle, WA); and daughter, Jacqueline Carden (of Phoenix, AZ).
Galen’s wish was to be cremated and have a small, private memorial with family and close friends. Date and location to be determined.
