

Harry Carl Struby, of Leawood, Kansas, died on October 4, 2011. He was born on June 1, 1920 in Quincy, Illinois to Carl William and Lura Stickler Struby. He had two older sisters, Agnes Barrett and Ruth Taylor. Harry grew up in Green City and Kirksville, Missouri, graduating from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State) in 1943. He served in the Naval Reserve Corp as a pilot during World War II and married the love of his life, Irene Weger, of Keytesville, Missouri on January 14, 1945. After getting out of the service, he worked for JC Penney, Consumers Cooperative Association (CO-OP), White Motor Company and Volvo-White Trucks. He was the Kansas City Branch Manager for White Motor Company and Volvo-White Trucks prior to his retirement in 1988 and was a member of Cure’ of Ars parish in Leawood for 50 years.
Harry was an avid golfer and enjoyed listening and dancing to jazz. He played the trumpet in his college band and while in the service. In his retirement, he enjoyed helping friends and neighbors and was often seen walking the neighborhood where he lived since 1962.
Harry is survived by his sister, Ruth Taylor of Wichita, Kansas; children Carl, Dave, Charley, Doug, Diane and Pam; twelve nieces and nephews; eighteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. We all will always remember the juicies he landed on many a cheek.
Visitation will be held at McGilley and Hoge, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS, from 5 to 7 on Sunday, October 16. A funeral mass will be held at Cure’ of Ars Catholic Church at 94th and Mission Road on Monday, October 17, at 10 a.m.
