Jacquelyn Luverne Raupp Davis Faught, 69, of Lenexa, KS passed away on June 23, 2015. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30th with Memorial service following at 11:00 a.m. at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Dr., Overland Park, KS.
Jackie Lu, as she was affectionately called by her many cousins, was born on January 28, 1946 to John L. Raupp and Wilma Luverne Fanning Raupp. As an only child, she was blessed to be in family full of cousins, many of whom were among her best, and life-long, friends She loved dancing, taking years of lessons. A highlight was a performance as a munchkin in The Wizard of Oz at Starlight Theater. She attended St. Catherine’s and St. Teresa’s Academy, graduating from SW High School in 1963. Her Catholic foundations led to a strong, lifelong Catholic faith that was very meaningful to her and was a comfort in many difficult times.
Soon after graduating from High School, she met her future husband, A.J. Davis. They married and in December of 1964, welcomed their only daughter, Charity Luverne. Three years later, Jackie was a single mother, a role she embraced.
Jackie worked hard to keep her little family afloat. She dispatched for a cab company, did light delivery, answered phones in an answering service, dispatched for a delivery company and did a myriad other small jobs to make ends meet.
In 1982 she married Johnnie H. Faught, her friend and boss of many years. Together they worked in the delivery service, managed mini-warehouses, were the house-parents for a home for troubled youth and were the caretakers of Sunflower Council of Camp Fire’s Camp Towanyak in Shawnee. Johnnie died in 1996.
In addition to her money-making jobs, Charity was Jackie’s full-time preoccupation. She made sure that Charity did everything she wanted to and had anything she needed. She served in the PTA at Overland Park Elementary School. She attended countless orchestra concerts, choir concerts, plays and competitions as Charity pursued her love of music. She was a dedicated Camp Fire leader from Charity’s 1st grade year through graduation from high school, mothering many other girls along the way. She was a dedicated volunteer for years and earned many service awards in Camp Fire.
Charity, was married in 1990 to Perry White, who she met at K-State while pursuing her education degree. Perry and Charity gave Jackie her three favorite things in this world – Kenny John, Kylie Joy and Keller Joel. These grandchildren became the center of Jackie’s world. When they were small she loved taking them out to eat, to movies and sometimes being their ride to activities. Her health problems made it more difficult for her, but she came to every musical performance and Boy Scout event that she was able. She reveled in their accomplishments and loved cheering them on in their endeavors. Her last outing was to Keller’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor. We know she’s still cheering them on!
Perhaps because of her only-child status, she deeply valued her family relationships. This led to her starting the Fanning Family reunions in 1988. These reunions have done the job of keeping the family closer over the years. Her leadership and enthusiasm for these events will be sorely missed.
Jackie always had dogs growing up and continued to enjoy pets throughout her life. Sheba, her last dog, would go with her everywhere – even on deliveries! She was a dog-lover, for sure, but even added a few cats and a guinea pig through the years!
Another love for Jackie was Michael Buble. If you knew her, you know this fact! She was the co-president of one of his international fan clubs, writing monthly e-newsletters for the Buble Babes all over the world. She saw Michael in concert in KC, Wichita, and Omaha. The last big trip of her life was to his concert in New York where she met other fans from the club and had a marvelous time.
Jackie’s health deteriorated quickly over the past couple of years, but she always bounced back. This spring she faced her hardest battle and emerged victorious, but much weaker. With her latest round of illness, she had just had enough. She was ready and made the decision to enter hospice. She was only there for 4 hours before leaving this world of pain and entering one of wholeness and peace. We are very grateful for her life and the great love she had for her family and friends.
