Dr. Foster was a most wonderful person. He was my superintendent in Shreveport, Louisiana during the time I was working at central office as a physical education supervisor. Dr. Foster encouraged, supported, and guided me throughout his tenure as our leader.  He will be missed but I will continue to "visit" him in my memories of a great man! I must add the Mrs. Foster was the perfect role model and supporter for Dr. Foster and the Shreveport community. Both of you were "family" and Marilyn and I enjoyed knowing you. We also looked forward to visiting with both of you at the LSUS basketball games. Good Times! May God continue to bless you and lift you up as Dr. Foster would expect.

To Mrs. Foster and Family:  I learned of Dr. Foster's death two days ago at a retired teacher meeting and was saddened by such news.  I worked closely with Dr. Foster for several years in  Caddo Parish Schools and came to know him well and respect him for his integrity and professionalism.  I know that your loss is felt deeply.  He was a sincere family man.

I am so very sorry for your loss of Jim. I was a neighborhood kid growing up in Overland Park and knew the Foster's well.  Jim was a really good guy, one I admired for his cool manner and his athleticism.  My wife Joan worked with him in the Shawnee Mission Schools and was always complimentary of his professionalism and leadership. I'm proud to have known him and sorry for this loss to our community.

Sandra,Jim a was true professional and a good friend.  I spent 30 years in the Caddo Parish school system, the last 12 years as Superintendent.  I retired just before Dr. Foster came to Caddo, but I knew him well and always respected him as a friend.  He was well received in Caddo, and everyone totally admired and respected him as an educational leader.  With 6,000 employees and 50,000 students it's very difficult to be as well respected as was Dr. Foster.

Dear Saundra and family, mom and I are so sorry for your loss. Jim was mom favorite administrator she ever worked with and she remembers how good he was to my Grandmother after Grandpa died. I remember what a kind and caring man he was, always friendly but firm when needed. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Education in the Shawnee Mission, Blue Valley and Caddo Parish schools benefited from Dr. Foster.  We could not have had a better role model.  Every individual and situation was treated with class by Dr. Foster.

I first met Mr. Foster in 1963 when I was in 7th grade at Milburn Jr. High School. He was my gym teacher. I can still picture him, slim and trim, grey slacks, white polo shirt, white sneakers, with his coaches whistle around his neck, and always a warm encouraging smile emitting from his face.  He inspired me to overcome any fears of trying new things and to do my best at every thing I attempted. As for making lasting impressions that year, for me, there were the Beatles, the memory of JFK, and my wonderful role model, Mr. James Foster. I still have my Milburn yearbook with his signature, which I will continue to cherish.  I never knew of all of his many outstanding accomplishments, the most impressive to me being his 60 year marriage. I want to convey my deepest and most sincere condolences to Mr Foster's entire family.  Along with you, I will miss him.

So sorry to hear of Jim passing.  We had good things happen when he was in SMSD.  He was my principal at MB and got things done for wife, Carolyn, school nurse.When visiting a brother in LA, called to talk with Jim but he was in a meeting.  The secretary told me to hold on a minute, the next thing I remember was Jim's voice.  What a pleasure to speak with him in far away places.  He was a winner in more ways than one. Mrs. Foster - I was truly taken back when I saw the passing of Jim - I was a young teacher in the SM District at SM South when Jim was I believe Dist Ad or Assistant Superintendent - He was an example of what I wanted to be - I had been at South starting in 1971 and left 30 years later in 2001 - He was kind - smart - had common sense - liked people and was a person I respected because he was going to do what was right - I am sad today and have tears as I write this note - God bless him and you - I am thankful that I knew him because he made me want to be a better person - Bill McDonald

I had the good fortune of working with Jim when we were employed by the Shawnee Mission School district. He was a blessing in my life.Rest in peace.  Harlan Hess

60 years ago, I met Jim after we were commissioned 2nd Lieutenants in the Marines. We spent 8 months together in E Company 4th Platoon of the 3rd Basic Officers Class at Quantico, Virginia. We shared tough times and happy times together with our classmates before being sent to Marine posts all over the world. Starting with the 30th anniversary of our commissioning, our Basic Class held reunions every 5 years. Jim and Sandra were always there and a pleasure to be with once again. 

Jim, was a quiet force who embodied all the characteristics you would expect in an honorable leader and husband.

May God's grace be with you as you find rest and peace. We all will miss you.
