James Booker Horner, age 90, of Gladstone, MO, formerly of Mission, KS passed away on May 5, 2025 at his home. Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Wednesday, May 14th at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Thursday, May 15th at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson Road, Mission, KS 66202. Graveside service will be 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 15th at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66210. James was born on May 24, 1934 in Kansas City, MO. He was an artist at Hallmark Cards. He enjoyed painting and classical music. James was a Rhodes Scholar, and taught art in Europe and Philadelphia. He was a portrait teacher.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Horner; mother, Martha Horner; brother, Frank Horner II; nephew, Richard Horner; and nieces, Martha Smith and Janice Shields.
James is survived by his nephew, Frank Horner III; niece, Virginia Horner; great-nephews, Richard Horner, Justin Smith and Robert Shields; great-nieces, Ruby Horner and Heather Burton; and great great-nephew, Thach Norris.
