

Growing up on the family farm, he raised horses and built several lifelong friendships. Jim graduated from Dacoma High School in 1946 and attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma University in Alva, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After college, he served in the US Army followed by a successful career in sales. He was an active member and past president of the Kiwanis club, the Civilian Civic Club and spent many hours volunteering with the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch. He was also a member of the men’s group at Westbrooke Church in Overland Park, Kansas where he was greatly loved. He spent many mornings at the Oak Park Mall with his walking group.
Jim was a cheerful, positive and outgoing person, an avid golfer and well known for his jokes and stories. He was known by his family and friends for the many editorial articles he authored and published in the Kansas City Star.
Jim is survived by his wife of the home, Doris (McMurphy) Lockhart (61 years of marriage), three daughters, Debra Ann Rose, Donna Lea Martin, Leigh Anne Thomas (Robert); five grandchildren, Matthew Martin, Amanda Myers (Nick), Callie Kelly (Finn), Myles Howell and Madison Howell; one great grandchild, Cash Erin Kelly; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother, Walter Lockhart and three sisters, Frances Knowles, Bernice Logan and Marjorie Reccius.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 8 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McGilley and Hoge Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, October 9 at 10:00am at Westbrooke Church, 9777 Antioch Road, Overland Park, Kansas. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri. Online condolences may be left at www.mcgilleyhoge.com.
