James R. Roberts, 87, passed away at home in Overland Park on Dec. 5, 2011. He was born Oct. 7, 1924 to Bud and Edna (Plaisted) Roberts. Visitation will be at Valley View United Methodist Church, 8412 W. 95th St. from 10 to 11 a.m. on December 10th, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.. Jim was a Navy veteran of WWII. He graduated from Pittsburg State University and became a teacher and administrator for the Shawnee Mission School District. Jim was an enthusiastic golfer, fisherman and woodworker. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Lou, two sons, Ken and Bruce Roberts and daughter Beverly Smallwood and husband Steve. He also is survived by sister, Dorothy Phillips of Paola, four grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the American Heart Association.
