Janice Bruce Low Riley was born January 6th, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri to Helen and George Low. She attended Paseo High School, transferring to a high school in Wisconsin for her senior year. The friends she made at Paseo High remained lifelong friends. She attended Duke University for several semesters. In 1951, she married Robert Riley, an architect she met on a blind date. They would have been married 60 years in November. Jan was a great wife and mom, the homemaker extraordinaire, a creative and excellent seamstress, and was proud of her long time involvement and contributions to PTA and PEO. She was a member of Alpha Phi. Her passions were gardening and needlepoint and she was an election poll worker for many years. Jan is also widely known for having the best brownie recipe in the world. One of her numerous charming attributes was her wonderful sense of humor. She was gracious, sweet, thoughtful, and an enthusiastic chocoholic. She was also an avid bird-watcher. Jan and Bob were still living in the family home when Jan unexpectedly passed away peacefully the evening of April 21, 2011. Jan is survived by her husband, Bob; her sister, Sharon Thomas; her four daughters: Christine Riley, Cyd Riley, Sherry Jeter, and Lisa Riley; her grandchildren, Haley Jeter and Amanda Hellebusch; and her great grandchild, George Hellebusch; plus nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. Lastly, Bob, Cyd, and Lisa would like to sincerely thank Sherry for the extraordinary care and companionship she has provided to Jan and Bob for many years. A celebration of Jan's life will be held Thursday, April 28th, from 2-4 p.m., at McGilley & Hoge, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS.
