JoAnn was born in 1930 in Nashville, GA, to Benjamin Ernest and Vida Mae Vickers.
JoAnn spent her early years in Tampa with her brothers Billy (Wanda) Vickers, and Bobby (Billy Jo) Vickers. She met her husband, William Tomberlin, in Nashville, GA. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage. Bill’s career in the Air Force took them all over the world where JoAnn’s warm heart and Southern hospitality impacted many lives. During Bill’s service, they had 3 children. William Lawrence (Valerie) Tomberlin, Victor (Laura) Tomberlin, and Judith (Stacey) Crawford.
JoAnn continued to minister to others both in her church congregation and missionary community while Bill served as a Southern Baptist Pastor. During retirement, JoAnn was a Master Gardener, served on the McLeansboro, IL, Beautification Task Force, and owned Tomberlin Haus and Gartens. JoAnn’s kitchen knew no strangers. She hosted bible studies, mentees, missionaries, friends, and family. She had a warm meal and an open heart for anyone that joined them.
JoAnn is survived by her three children, one brother, five grandchildren: Conna (Tim), Noonday, Amanda (Vic), Lauren (Andrew), Jon, and nine great grandchildren.
A family memorial will be held in Kansas City on Monday, August 22, 2022. JoAnn will be laid to rest with her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, in St. Louis, MO with her graveside service to begin at 1:15pm on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, with Rev. Russell Anderson officiating.
