He was born on October 5, 1930, to Jose and Consuelo Ramirez in Kansas City, Kansas. He volunteered to serve his country in the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart.
Joe first worked in the yards for the Santa Fe Railroad, and then as a pay master where he retired after years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and an active member of the Catholic Church. He loved woodworking and tinkering in his backyard.
He is survived by his three children, John Ramirez, Albert Ramirez, Carmen Murphy and his son-in-law Gary Murphy. He has six grandchildren: Jeremy Ramirez, Alaina Learned, Amber Ramirez, John “JJ” Ramirez, Wesley Murphy and Alexander Murphy. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204, on July 15, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location at 12:00 pm. A Graveside Service will follow the funeral service at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 1150 North 38th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66102.
