

CMSgt. John E. “Jack” Kornbau, 85, of Overland Park, KS passed away Friday, July 15, 2016. Memorial service will be 2 pm on Sunday, July 24th at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Dr., Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be 1-2 pm Sunday at the chapel prior to the service. Inurnment will be Monday, July 25th at 10 am in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Legion Post #370 or to the Overland Park Fire Department.
Jack was born on December 11, 1930 in Canandaigua, NY. He started a job as a typesetter at the Canandaigua Messenger Newspaper in 1950. He spent 24 years in the Air Force working at the beginning of the computer age. Jack retired as CMSGT from the Air Force in 1974. He worked for the Department of Agriculture for 20 years and retired in 2002. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post #370 and the Boy Scouts on several military bases in his career.
Jack is preceded in death by son, John M. Kornbau; father and mother, Walter B. and Mildred Kornbau; brothers, Robert and Dick; and sister, Helen Fletcher. Survivors include his wife, Elaine H. Kornbau; brother, Donald Kornbau, sister-in-law Edna and daughters, Barbara Newman, Julia Cooke (Peter), and Michelle Mehan (Bob); nine grandsons; one granddaughter; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
