Joyce Jean Hutchison, 93, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Joyce was born in Muncie, KS on June 16, 1929. The family originally lived on a farm and Joyce developed a life-long love of animals and gardening (especially growing tomatoes). She graduated from Rosedale High School and briefly worked for the Westport Bakery. In 1951, she joined Twin City State Bank (now Commerce Bank), where she served for 40 1/2 years. She began as a Bookkeeper and retired as Assistant Vice President in Customer Service.
Joyce was an active member of Roanoke Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in Westport. She was Church Treasurer for many years and one of the Chairs of the yearly Basement Sale. If there was work to be done at Church, Joyce was always a willing volunteer. After Roanoke closed, she later joined Merriam Christian Church, where several friends from Roanoke had also transferred. It saddened her when she could no longer attend services or keep up her tithe.
Joyce had a love of music and travel, especially 2 wonderful trips to Hawaii. For a few years, she and her closest friend, Charlene Upton, ran an Estate Sale business. Most importantly, she was a firm friend and gave of herself to God and others. As long as she could, she put others before herself, always ready to help, whenever it was needed.
She is survived by her great nieces Lisa Anderson (Robert) and Stacy Mason, Ft. Worth, TX; Great-great nieces and nephews: Lindsay Emmert (Steven) and Reagan; Adam Anderson; Derek Anderson, Ft. Worth, TX; Tamara Diffily (Jeff), Arlington, TX; Dear friends (her second family!) include Kathy Cole, Eric Cole, Highlands, KS; Becky Cole (fiancé Keith Slimmer), Hiawatha, KS; Brady Emmett Cole, Highlands and St. Joseph, MO; John Upton (Wanda), Overland Park, KS; and Margi and Bob Colerick, Kansas City, MO.
She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and numerous friends and family members, whom she dearly missed and with whom she has now been re-united.
Visitation will be 10:00 am - 10:30 am on Friday, July, 29th, 2022 at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas, followed by Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 10:30 am. Joyce requested memorial gifts be made to the Merriam Christian Church, 9401 Johnson Drive, Merriam, KS 66203, or to the Salvation Army of Kansas and Western Missouri, 3637 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64111.
