Kathleen Ann (McGlynn) Ashwill, 77, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on June 16, 2021. Memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at McGilley and Hoge Johnson County Chapel, Overland Park, with a time of visiting to begin at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Melissa’s Second Chances Animal Rescue (Shawnee, Kansas) or the American Civil Liberties Union.
A Braniff flight attendant in the 1960s, Ms. Ashwill worked for many years at the KU School of Nursing and the Johnson County Public Libraries. She loved mystery novels (from Agatha Christie to Sara Paretsky), opera, Elvis, dogs (especially her pal Sadie), Scrabble, quilting, and the Green Bay Packers. She was a staunch supporter of women’s rights, reproductive freedom, and civil rights, and a great admirer of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
She was preceded in death by her brother Michael McGlynn (1969) and her parents, Jim McGlynn (2002) and Janet McGlynn (2011). She is survived by her son Gary Ashwill and daughter-in-law Christina Chia; her daughter Kelly Ashwill and son-in-law Jess Greiss; her grandsons Sam Warner and Patrick Weber; and her brothers Kevin (Lois) McGlynn, John McGlynn, Tim (Misty) McGlynn, and Kelly (Colleen) McGlynn.
