Kathleen Mary "Kathy" Plate

Kathleen Mary (Kathy) Plate, age 69, loving wife, mother and friend of Overland Park, KS passed away September 15, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Kathy was born April 10,1956, to James Sampson Dugan and Helen Jane Dugan in Phoenix, AZ. Her father’s career moves brought them to Omaha where she graduated from Central High and then attended the University of Nebraska for two years.

Kathy met her future husband Reed in Omaha while working in the restaurant business. They later transferred to Lincoln, NE for work and were married there on St. Patrick’s Day 1982. Their son Ryan was born in Lincoln in 1985. Reed began his sales career in Lincoln and they transferred to Overland Park in 1986.

Kathy enjoyed being an at home mom and was involved in Ryan’s school activities and later was very involved with both Cub Scout and Boy Scout leadership. She mentored several Scouts to achieve their Eagle Rank.

Being an outgoing person, Kathy also enjoyed her work experiences including several years at Home Depot and Capitol Federal where she retired from in May 2020.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather Harvey Slade, Sr. She is survived by her husband Reed, son Ryan and daughter-in law Becky, siblings Randle/Drew (Carrie) Dugan, Kevin Dugan, Colleen (Eric) Messick, and Harvey/Chip (Catherine) Slade, Jr. Grandchildren Elena Cunningham and Theo Barrera, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Resa and Doug Wiltse and nieces and nephews.

Per Kathy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service and cremation has taken place with a private inurnment to follow. A celebration of life will be announced in the future. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.mcgilleyhoge.com.
