It is with deep sadness our family must announce the passing of our dear mother, Laura (Yepez) Stalnaker, on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15th at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. Laura was born on July 19, 1928 in Huigra, Ecaudor. She was preceded in death by her husband, K.W. Stalnaker. Survivors include her sons, Ward, Stan and Thomas; daughter, Sandy; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Our mother was an amazing individual, moving from Ecuador to Kansas City after marrying, and learning English and raising 4 kids in her challenging new environment. Mom was emotionally strong, a wonderful Mom and thoroughly unique individual. After our father's death in 1989, Mom worked hard to establish a very independent life, running her household by herself, and even briefly (thankfully) learning to drive. In her later years, Mom enjoyed cooking, walking, going to church, and especially finding great bargains at estate sales. Her resiliency while facing the challenges of life provided an example for her children which we have come to appreciate so much. Mom was active up until almost the time of her passing, and we are happy she lived a complete and full life. Mom was an inspiration to all her kids, and we will miss her very much. Love you Mom!

Laura met so much to us. She was a caring and loving neighbor and friend. When our children were quite young and had contacted chicken pox, we couldn’t find someone to stay with our children while we worked. Laura volunteered and did a wonderful job. She introduced our children to yogurt, and to this day it’s still a favorite of both. She stayed on as our loving and dedicated baby sitter for many years. She will always be in our family’s hearts.

I was so sad to learn of Laura’s passing from the KC Star obituaries. I feel like she was just at the office to see her internist. It was always my pleasure to see her wheeling through our doors. Because our names rhymed I always remembered her. God bless your family. It was my pleasure to know Laura.

Amazing woman, full of energy and love. I have beautiful memories shared with her. I will never forget her delicious cooking and that she was always mad because squirrels ate the tomatoes she grew in her garden (hahaha)
