Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204, with the Rosary Service following at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615 W. 92nd Street, Lenexa, KS 66215. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8321 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS 66215. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association - Heart of America Chapter.
Larry was born on November 13, 1941 in Zurich, Kansas and raised in Western Kansas before his family relocated to Olathe, KS. He married Teresa Santee in 1967 and together they raised five children. Larry was a carpenter and built the family's home where he resided until his passing. He loved nature, working in his yard, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and traveling. Larry was a devout Catholic at St. Paul's, Holy Trinity and St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in KCMO.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa (Santee) Thummel; his mother, Helen Irene Thummel and his father, Bernard Thomas Thummel.
Survivors include his five children, Brigitte Loos (Keith), Melissa Rupert (Mark), Jill Schramp (Joe), Rachelle Wieneke and Daniel Thummel; 11 grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Kaitlin, Michael, Matthew, Bradley, Patrick, Henry, Ruben, Erika and Kelan, and his sisters, Marjorie Thummel and Jean Thummel.
