Linda D. Janda, 77, passed away peacefully Monday, May 26, 2025, at Brookdale College Square in Overland Park, KS. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 10:00am at McGilley & Hoge Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204.
Linda was born in Kearney, MO and attended The University of Missouri and Purdue University, where she received a master’s in library science. After several different career moves, she went on to be a Medical Librarian at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital (GLWACH) at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO where she met her husband, Dr. Wayne Janda.
Shortly after they were married in 1991, Wayne had orders to be stationed in Seoul, South Korea. It was there where her dream of becoming a mother was realized and they adopted their daughter, Julia. Afterwards, the family moved to Clarksville, TN then Coralville, IA from the late 1990s-2006. While there, she was heavily involved in the children’s ministry at Coralville United Methodist Church, volunteered teaching Sunday school, and started Kids Club, a Christ-centered after school program, for elementary aged kids.
In 2006, the family moved to Waynesville, MO, where she returned to work again as a Medical Librarian at GLWACH. She retired in 2012 and was recognized for 20 years of service to the United States Government.
Linda loved her family and being a mother. She also had many other interests and hobbies over the years:
• Solitaire (cheating when it took too long for her to win)
• Board and card games such as Clue, Monopoly, Hearts, and Crazy Eights
• She enjoyed watching sports, calling the referees colorful names, and was a longtime Chiefs and
Cardinals fan
• Domino’s Pizza was one of her favorite dinner treats
• A strong follower of Christ, she enjoyed teaching others about God even into her older years.
• Gardening and flowers of all types
• As a cat lover, especially their family cats, Ivy and Cookie, Whiskers Cat Cafe in Kansas City was one of her favorite places to visit!
Linda is survived by her daughter Julia, stepdaughter Laura, sisters Marion and Janis, brother Larry, and niece Cece. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Leslie and Emily, and her husband Wayne.
Suggested memorials in Linda’s honor are donations to the KC Pet Project.
