

Margaret Exzelma Bernardel of Westwood, Kansas passed away February 17th with her nephews and nieces around her at the home of her nephew, Tony and wife, Jane Bernardel and family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 3934 Washington Street, Kansas City, Missouri, 9:00 am, Tuesday, February 21st with a Rosary beginning at 8:30 am with Celebrant- Father Adam Haake. An open viewing to take place Monday, February 20th from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm at McGilley & Hoge Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204.
Margaret was born March 6, 1917 to Angela (Bandiera) Bernardel and Angelo Bernardel, who immigrated to the United States in 1900 from Nervesa della Battaglia, Bavaria of Venice Italy. Margaret took great pride in her Italian heritage. She was born in Rosedale, Kansas and baptized at Holy Name Catholic Church, also in Rosedale.
She was employed and retired from Western Weighing and Inspection Bureau after 25 years of service and belonged to Lodge 1171, Brotherhood of Railway Clerks.
Her mother received her naturalization paper on September 4, 1946. Margaret and her family were founding members of St. Agnes Catholic Church since 1929.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary Santa Maria, Anna Bernardel and Edith Wright and two brothers, John Anthony "Big John" Bernardel and John Angelo "Little John" Bernardel.
She is survived by nieces, Shirley Wright, Bonnie Sue Cooper and Angela "Cookie" Hunley and husband, Bob, and many other great nieces, nephews and their families. She also leaves behind three first cousins in Bavaria Italy, Providence of Venice Italy.
