Martin Carrillo, age 100, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at home. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the chapel. Burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, 2301 S. 34th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66106.
Martin Carrillo Sr. was born the son of Urbano and Paula Carrillo in Emporia, Kansas, where he grew up enjoying fishing and spending time with his brothers and sisters. He also lived next door to his future wife Rosa. Martin served in WWII in the South Pacific and returned to work for Santa Fe railroad and retired after 40 years of service.
He was married to the love of his life, Rosa Carrillo until her passing in April of 2000. They raised 3 sons Martin, Robert, and Daniel. He enjoyed listening to Mexican music and playing guitar and the harmonica. Martin could find a friend anywhere he went. He always lit up a room with his smile. In his golden years, he enjoyed visiting the local grocery stores to just say “hi” to patrons and workers. He had the special “Carrillo charm”.
He was led by his Christian faith and found strength in the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Carrillo; his grandson, Robert Anthony Carrillo; and his brothers and sisters: Tony Carrillo, Phillip Carrillo Sr., Mary Lopez and Virginia Carrillo.
He is survived by his sons, Martin Carrillo Jr. (Socorro), Robert Carrillo, and Daniel Carrillo; three grandchildren, Christina Arrieta (Alex), Angela Carrillo, and Susan Carrillo; two great grandchildren, Alexia Wegrzynowski (Nicholas) and Amelia Arrieta; and two brothers, David and Jessie Carrillo.
