Mary Ellen Alfino, 56, of Lenexa, Ks, passed away January 2, 2012 of pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by family and friends. Mary Ellen was born on March 7, 1955 in Milwaukee, WI to Frank and Arlene (Nurre) Alfino. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in Lenexa, Ks. She attended Loretto High School in Kansas City. After high school, she attended the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas State University, and graduated from the University of Kansas, with a degree in graphic design. Upon graduation, she worked for the Shawnee Mission School District as a graphic designer. She went to work for the IRS retiring on 2011. Mary Ellen was an avid reader, who also loved to travel, and especially enjoyed spending time with her two cats.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank R. Alfino, and her uncle, Glen Wells. She leaves behind her mother Arlene; two sisters: Vicki Lillig and Diane Alfino; two brothers: Tony and Frank Alfino; three nieces, two nephews, and many relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30am, Friday, January 6, 2012, at the Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, KS 66212. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa. Visitation will be from 10:30am – 11:30am prior to mass at the church. Family requests in lieu of flowers, mass donations to Holy Cross. Please offer condolences at www.mcgilleyhoge.com.
