Mary Ada Gasaway

Mary Ada Gasaway passed on June 29th, 2026 in Leawood, Kansas, at the age of 90. Mary was born in Homer, Kentucky on July 26, 1935 to Jesse Lee and Zula Emma Hildabrand. Most of her school years were spent living in Lewisburg and Auburn, Kentucky. Then in high school her family moved to Latham, Illinois. There she met then married her husband, Glenn William Gasaway in 1957. Glenn’s job led them to live in multiple cities including Richmond, IN; Minneapolis, MN; Denver, CO then Overland Park, KS where they called home for over 50 years. They spent many winters at their condo in Sun City, AZ where she and Glenn had many good friends. They traveled all over the USA by car visiting friends, family, national parks, stadiums, and local culture. They also visited Hawaii, Europe, Canada and Mexico.They were true love and lived together inseparably until he passed in 2020. Mary was also preceded in death by her four older brothers, Jesse Lee Jr., Al, Charlie and Jerry Hildabrand. She is survived by her son, Kent Gasaway (Rhonda) of Prairie Village, KS and daughter, Kristi Gasaway (Katrina Coombs) of Palm Desert, CA. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Mallory Crespi (Mattia) of Florence, Italy, Hannah Gasaway of Prairie Village, KS, Lacey Estrella (Taylor) of Fort Collins, CO and Grant Gasaway of Denver, CO. Her great-grandchildren include, Ocean Gasaway of Prairie Village, KS, Romeo and Celia Crespi of Florence, Italy and granddaughter, Lacey is expecting Mary’s 4th great-grandchild this December. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary and Glenn’s lives brightened with the birth of each grandchild, they simply adored them and were very proud, involved grandparents. Mary loved spending time with them as they grew, from having sleepovers to dressing them up for tea parties to playing school in their basement, these are a few of the grandkids fondest memories with her. She also loved visiting with friends & family members and could chat for hours on the phone. She loved telling stories about growing up on a farm, and about her and Glenn’s families and their life together. She also enjoyed planning and hosting parties, preparing meals and having friends over to play Rook, Bridge and Bunko. Anyone that came over she made sure that they were fed, taken care of, and felt right at home. She loved to cook, bake and take care of those she loved. She was an incredible Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, neighbor and friend that will forever be missed.

A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, August 29th at 1:00 pm at Resurrection Church, 8412 W. 95th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
