Mary Morine Nelson, age 84, died on August 10, 2021 after a long battle with Lymphoma. Mary was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. She worked at GSA for 30 years, and had strong family ties to the Lindsborg, KS area. She lived in the same Overland Park house at 69th and Russell for over 50 years. The past few years she resided at Village Cooperative of Shawnee.
Two adult children, Michael and George, survive her. Her daughter, Rondi Nelson precedes her in death. Besides her children, six grandchildren survive her: Ryan, Alisha, Heather Morine, Stephen, Michael, and Kevin, as well as five great-grandchildren Carleigh, Addaleigh, Ryleigh, Willow, and Sage.
Mary, known as Mema and Famor to her grandchildren, took pride in her Swedish heritage. She loved to travel the world, sew, crochet, craft, and enjoyed time socializing with friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held 4-6pm on Sunday, August 15, at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Dr., Overland Park, KS 66204. Memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 16, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Westport Rd, Kansas City, MO 64111.
