

Mary Jane Staley, age 86, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away August 3, 2010, at home. She was born April 2, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., the eighth child of nine children of Charles and Thusnelda Quackenbush. On Jan. 27, 1945, she married Marvin Wilburn Staley of Kansas City. Marvin passed away in October 2008. Surviving are one son, Dr. Michael J. Staley and wife Jennifer of Overland Park; grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica and Samantha Staley; daughter, Miss Deborah Staley of Kansas City; daughter, Mrs. Sheryl Staley Modes and husband Richard of Hillsdale, Kan.; grandson, Nicholas Modes; sister, Betty Lou Basgall of Sacramento and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mary lived her entire life in the Kansas City area. She was well known for her sweetness, vivaciousness and beauty. During World War II, she constantly wrote to servicemen to boost their spirits. Her favorite pastime was to have coffee with her friends at McDonald's. Just going out to see family and friends was her most favorite thing in the world. She enjoyed bowling with her husband throughout their lives. She was a faithful member of Church of the Holy Cross in Overland Park and formerly participated in Perpetual Adoration. Mary lived at Freedom Pointe the past two years. She just loved her apartment there. The wonderful staff really kept her going after losing her husband. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, with Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Church of the Holy Cross.
